Erin-Downes

Erin Downes, VMD

Since her start in Veterinary Medicine in 1992, Erin has made it her goal in life to be an educator, an outstanding doctor, and a friend to pets everywhere. Erin began her career as a large animal veterinarian in the early 1990s, practicing in the western United States. In 1996, she invested in her own General Small Animal Practice in Pennsylvania alongside her husband and fellow celebrated veterinarian, Dr. Jay Rowan.

As with all veterinarians in the United States, Dr. Downes puts the health of the animal first. She cares for every animal that comes through her door, working diligently to protect and promote their health and wellbeing. She makes it her priority to diagnose, treat, and research all associated medical conditions and diseases of every person’s beloved pet.

A graduate from Penn State University as a Bachelors of Science summa cum laude with honors in physics as well as holding a Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris summa cum laude from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, Erin has made the pursuit of the veterinary industry center to her life. Penn State consistently ranks among the best national colleges, and the University of Pennsylvania ranked in the Top Ten national universities for 2022. Licensed to practice in the state of Pennsylvania, Dr. Downes considers it an honor to work with each and every pet she sees, and has a true passion for animals. She was also valedictorian of her graduating veterinary class.

A proud doctor for Paoli Vetcare, she is a Fear Free Certified® doctor, using this transformative initiative to ensure that the emotional wellbeing and enrichment of pets is put first. Fear Free is one of the most impactful methods in the entire history of companion animal practice, and has made incredible strides in reducing the fear, stress, and anxiety of pets. Dr. Downes also has experience in fully training a working line German Shepherd to be a service animal trained and certified in personal protection.

One of only 15% of veterinary practices in the US and Canada to hold the AAHA-accredited designation, Erin is proud to work for Paoli Vetcare. AAHA (the American Animal Hospital Association, a non-profit organization for companion animals that accredits small animal hospitals in the U.S. and Canada) veterinary practices are consistently held to numerous high standards, where pets are their love and passion. Dr. Downes works hard to keep pets healthy, and to ensure that every single pet receives the same priority and attention. Erin maintains that pets and their people deserve nothing less than excellent health care.

All veterinarians at Paoli Vetcare, Dr. Downes included, are also proud members of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association, a non-profit association that provides resources and continuing education for veterinary professionals). All of their veterinarians and staff attend yearly classes on continuing education, holding meetings that help them stay up- to-date on the latest changes in the field and their appreciation for pets. Paoli Vetcare also supports their community and small businesses through the Paoli Business Association and Main Line Chamber of Commerce, ensuring that they care for not only pets but the community at large.
